Sustainability Consulting Role: Leading comprehensive natural ventilation studies to optimize indoor air quality and energy performance while developing strategic certification approach for Living Building Challenge (LBC) Core certification as part of Harvard's updated 2024 Sustainable Building Standards. Coordinating advanced building performance modeling to integrate passive environmental systems with high-performance building standards. (Work performed while at Thornton Tomasetti)

Climate-Positive Solutions Targeted:

  • Living Building Challenge (LBC) Core certification targeting Harvard's new sustainability framework

  • Comprehensive natural ventilation studies optimizing passive environmental control systems

  • Mass timber construction with reclaimed brick and cedar cladding minimizing lifetime carbon budget

  • Rooftop solar panels capturing clean energy to supplement district utilities

  • Green roof and extensive plantings for stormwater attenuation and biodiversity enhancement

  • Integration with Harvard's new lower-carbon District Energy Facility for utilities

Performance Outcomes Targeted:

  • Targeting Living Building Challenge (LBC) Core certification

  • 68,000 square feet with two flexible performance spaces (700-seat and 300-seat capacity)

  • Advanced natural ventilation systems reducing energy usage and enhancing occupant comfort

  • Regenerative design principles minimizing lifetime carbon budget

  • Expected completion in 2026 as Harvard's anchor arts facility in Allston

  • Model for sustainable performing arts facilities integrating passive systems with high performance

The Harvard American Repertory Theater David E. and Stacey L. Goel Center for Creativity & Performance by Haworth Tompkins + ARC + Charcoal Blue represents a groundbreaking 68,000-square-foot performing arts facility currently under construction in Harvard's Allston campus.
